1879 The original Company, still market leader today, Officine Maccaferri, is founded, for the production of wires, cables and derivatives (e.g., the gabions).
1936 Foundation of SAMP, Societa Anonima Macchine di Precisione, located in Via Rappini, Bologna (Italy). Production of wire making machines is launched. Simultaneosly, internal gear production starts too, to feed the machine assembly lines, with 35 dedicated employees.
1947 Works are relocated at Via Stalingrado, still in Bologna. Production of shaved and ground cylindrical (spur) gears, as well as of lapped bevel sets, keeps on developing, well supporting the main business of wire making machines. Total number of employees touches 120, while the production of gabions is moved out to a different site. In the following years, well known Italian manufacturers become gear customers: Alfa Romeo e Fiat (hypoid sets), Motoguzzi. Subsequently, Billi, Vigorelli, Necchi too enter business with SAMP, completing a range of gear accounts of primary importance.

1973 Production of gears is relocated to the current site, at Villanova di Castenaso, in the Bologna outskirts. The name of Sampingranaggi is adopted, as a division of SAMP. Workforce for the sole gear production grows to 120. New prestigious customers join, such as Oto Melara, Sarocco, Galileo. During the first half of the '70s, Sampingranaggi starts exporting to other European countries.
1987 Special design gear reducers are developed and produced for the first time.
1993 Production of ground bevel and hypoid sets starts, as part of a strategy aiming to catering to the high precision market end.
1994 Sampingranaggi becomes a separate identity from SAMP, by the name of Sampingranaggi S.r.l., though still belonging to the Maccaferri Industrial Group. ISO 9001 certification is achieved.

2003 The Company changes into the new denomination of Sampingranaggi S.p.A.
2004 Exports peak at 82% of the turnover. USA becomes an important destination of Sampingranaggi S.p.A. gears.
2006 Sampingranaggi, Samputensili e Sampsistemi merge in the new SAMP S.p.A. The three former companies become Divisions, though maintaining their respective identities, as far as works, offices, products and markets are concerned.
